FDB Møbler has a long tradition of producing beautiful sofas as the natural focal point of home interiors. Thomas Alken has designed the 7-9-13 modular sofa with this tradition in mind. Today, we tend to move furniture around and try out new arrangements. That is why special fittings have been created for the modular sofa so it easily can be rearranged without tools. The design allows for each element to stand alone or in different combinations. All the possible arrangements are attractive, however, “they can create very different expressions,” says the designer Thomas Alken. Also, the designer made sure that the sofa even feels comfortable when you are naked. It is unlikely that the renowned Danish furniture designers of the 1950s thought much about this aspect. ‘7-9-13’ is a Danish way of saying ‘knock on wood’, i.e. to avoid tempting fate. The saying is only familiar in the Nordic countries, but the three numbers are known as having magical qualities in almost every culture.
